This is a day to raise awareness.
To raise awareness for what exactly?
Well, every single day, hundreds of kids get bullied and abused simply because of their sexuality and gender identity. This isn't okay.
LGBTQ+ people are constantly hiding in silence because their bullies silence them, and that is really not okay.
So, on this day, thousands of people didn't talk for the day to raise awareness for this cause.
This makes me really happy. As a queer person, I can rarely find people that even know the definition of my sexuality, let alone have an entire day dedicated to my community. I'm so proud. Our society is progressing.
Did I participate in this event? Of course I did. It was hard and I accidentally talked a couple of times but I really did try.
I know the day is over, but it doesn't mean we shouldn't keep promoting LGBTQ+ rights in schools.
